Raven & the Dove created and performed 8 shows within the Blackwood Chamber of Buchan’s Fairy Cave for the 2023 East Gippsland Winter Festival.

Original music written specifically for the show along with immersive visual projections, soundscapes and spoken word - all set amongst the natural ambience and acoustics of the chamber, combined with lighting design and video projections illuminated across the rock walls.

Inspired by the vast limestone boulders to the echo of a single drop of water, Raven & the Dove invoke the ‘ancient river’ that carved out the ancient auditorium over millions of years. Further songs and spoken word are inspired by stories of the clandestine wedding of local woman Fairy Moon inside the King’s Chamber of the cave in the 1940s, and her family’s connection to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

“Are you sure we are awake?” echoes through the chamber as questions of dreams and perception are illuminated.
